Tummy Tuck
Many of us spend a lot of time battling
a protruding abdomen. Whether we’re pretty fit and struggling with this problem
area, or out of shape and carrying a troublesome amount of weight
in our abdomen, we have a great surgical option to turn to. Tummy
tuck, or abdominoplasty, will flatten this area and even tighten
the underlying muscles. While this procedure should not be considered
an alternative to weight loss programs, it can be performed in
varying degrees, from a modified tummy tuck to an extended, so
people of differing sizes shouldn’t be afraid to consider
it.
A small incision is placed in the lower part of the abdomen. Some
scarring can be expected from this procedure, but will be low enough
to be easily concealed, even by swimwear. The skin is pulled aside,
and the abdominal muscles are tightened. As the skin is draped
back into place, all excess is removed and the remaining is settled
tightly into place. The area is sutured back up.
Tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure that is usually performed
under general anesthesia. It is generally about 2 to 4 weeks after
surgery that patients make it back to work. There is always a degree
of potential risk to be aware of when pursuing any surgical procedure.
Some of these related to tummy tuck can include bleeding or infection,
blood clots, or troubled healing that may lead to obvious scarring
or skin loss.
